▲다낭성난소증후군 진단=PCOS는 여성의 생리주기 불규칙(생리불순) 및 androgen의 과잉분비를 유발하는 주요 원인이다.의사는 Rotterdamcriteria에 의해 다음 3가지 조건 중 2가지 이상 만족했을 때 진단하게 된다.- 희귀배란 / 무배란 (Oligo-and / oranovulation) – 다모증 (hirsutism) – 초음파상 다낭성 난소

▲다낭성난소증후군 치료=PCOS 치료는 환자가 임신을 준비하고 있는지에 따라 달라지게 된다.- 임신을 준비하지 않은 경우 PCOS에 의한 만성 무배란은 자궁내막 이형성(endometrial hyper plasia) 위험이 있다. 따라서 에스트로겐-프로게스테론 피임약(COCs, estrogen-progestinoral contraceptives)으로 생리 주기를 되찾아 자궁내막을 보호하고자 한다.- 임신을 준비하지 않은 경우 비만일 경우 살을 빼도록 권장하고 고도비만일 경우 비만대사수술(위장 크기를 줄이거나 소장에서 우회로를 만드는 각종 수술법;bariatric surgery)을 권장하기도 한다.- 아울러 배란유도제(크로미펜, clomiphene) 4cycle 동안 치료한다.- 다만 희귀월경을 보이는 PCOS 환자의 경우에는 clomiphenecitrate에 앞서 letrozole을 먼저 권장하기도 하지만 의료진은 반드시 letrozole이 PCOS 치료제로 FDA에 의해 승인된 약이 아닌 다른 대체약(크로미펜)이 있음을 환자와 상담해야 한다.* 레트로졸(letrozole)은 원래 폐경 후 여성의 유방암 치료제로 페말라(femara)라고도 불린다.- 또 난임치료센터에서 침 치료를 추가로 권장하거나 IVF를 시도하고 있는 여성에게 함께 진행하기도 한다. 다만 침 치료의 단독 중재 및 크로미펜 병용이 live birthrates를 증가시킨다는 연구는 아직 없다.
